The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) is a statutory body mandated to regulate Uganda’s communications sector. It was established by the Uganda Communications Act 2013 to facilitate the development of a modern communications sector. The sector comprises telecommunications, broadcasting, postal services, radio communications and data communication and infrastructure. The sector comprises telecommunications; electronic media (broadcasting), social media; postal and courier services; radio communications; and data communication and infrastructure. The functions of UCC include Spectrum Management (licensing, standardising and monitoring of this scarce resource); setting and type-approving standards; enforcing compliance of standards, and; promoting research and innovations. Others are: promoting and safeguarding consumer rights; ensuring universal access of communications services; facilitating the ubiquitous access to a variety of ICT services, and; coordinating the participation of Uganda in international fora in the sector.
