Thank you to everyone who attended Capacity Caribbean 2013, Curacao
The most important C-level event for the wholesale Caribbean carrier community
On 14 & 15 February 2013, 203 delegates, 10 sponsors and 11 exhibitors gathered at the 7th annual Capacity Caribbean in Curaçao, making this years event the biggest and most successful so far.
The PRIME MINISTER OF CURAÇAO, Daniel Hodge began the conference with a forward-thinking opening address that emphasised the value of creating a competitive economy to attract international business to the region. This theme was further elaborated by Anthony de Lima, CEO of CTEX who, during his opening remarks, stressed the importance of encouraging technological innovation to remain competitive in a shifting global economy.
The morning’s keynote presentations from the INTERNATIONAL FINANCE CORPORATION, THE WORLD BANK and the INTER-AMERICAN DEVELOPMENT BANK gave delegates an insightful overview into the roll-out of Caribbean broadband initiatives. Referencing the region’s largely unmet broadband requirements and a ‘digital divide’ of varying penetration levels, the speakers outlined the necessity of encouraging stronger regulatory frameworks and developing sustainable business models to create a landscape to accelerate broadband deployment.
Throughout the two-day event, the conference panel discussions brought to the foreground some of the key issues shaping the development of the Caribbean wholesale market. The main themes addressed were the need to encourage stronger regional collaboration, create a climate to facilitate localised housing of content and adopt a more aggressive stance regarding the development of cloud services, employing an ‘adapt or die’ mentality.
Attendees took full advantage of the 10 hours of dedicated networking time available. This included the day one lunch sponsored by CWC WHOLESALE SOLUTIONS and two evening drinks receptions sponsored by UTS and CTEX. These relaxed networking environments gave delegates the opportunity to network with industry peers and build on relationships with the regional wholesale market.
“I spent my time at the Capacity Caribbean 2013 conference listening closely to the diverse opinions and thoughts raised by Caribbean carriers, service providers and partners in the vendor community. The conference was an amazing place to get a sense of what those closely involved in the Caribbean believe will happen in the next few months and years.”
