Why Marseille?

Mike Holland, Director of Connectivity at Interxion explains why Marseille is the fastest growing hub for connectivity in Europe.

In 2005 the first two submarine cable systems to land in Marseille (SeaMeWe4 and the Med Cable Network) went live.  Since then a further 11 systems have chosen Marseille as their gateway to Western Europe, with the two most recent being SeaMeWe5 and AAE-1.  All these systems combined have a total potential capacity of over 150Tbps.

These submarine cable systems have meant that Marseille is the leading telecommunications gateway between Europe and markets in Africa, Middle East and Asia.  Marseille is where international networks from these regions interconnect with a multitude of European backhaul network providers, all offering next generation, low latency connectivity from Marseille to major European cities.

And Marseille is no longer just a transit point.  Three leading Internet Exchanges are now deployed in the city, with traffic volumes experiencing exponential growth.  Further, the city is now home to recent deployments of top Content Distribution Networks, Digital Media Platforms and Cloud Service Providers.

Right now Marseille is the fastest growing connectivity hub in Europe, and the perfect choice for the location of Subsea Connect 2017.
